Terms of Service

Last updated: July 25, 2026

These terms cover your use of GoalRival. They're written to be readable rather than impenetrable, but they are the agreement between you and us — so please read the sections on safety and assumption of risk carefully. Cycling carries real risk, and no score on a website changes that.

Agreement

Accepting these terms

GoalRival (“we,” “us”) is operated from Florida, United States. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use GoalRival. If you're using it on behalf of an organization, you confirm you're authorized to accept these terms for it.

Who can use GoalRival

You must be at least 18 years old, and at least the age of majority where you live, to create an account. By signing up, you represent that you are.

Minors may use GoalRival only under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who holds the account, accepts these terms on their own behalf and the minor's, and takes full responsibility for the minor's use of the site — including any riding. GoalRival is not intended for children under 13 at all.

Reported Incident Scores are not safety ratings

GoalRival does not currently publish an incident score for any trail. Every trail shows N/A, which means we have no information to show you about that area.

We are building incident and condition reporting submitted by riders. When it launches, those reports will be presented as what they are — individual accounts from members of the community, published without independent verification by us. We do not endorse them, cannot confirm their accuracy, and are not responsible for their content.

Whatever appears on the site, understand these limits:

  • N/A does not mean safe. It means we are not publishing information about that area. Draw no inference from it.
  • User reports, once available, are unverified, may be incomplete, mistaken, or out of date, and describe only what one person observed at one moment.
  • Nothing on GoalRival is a safety rating, a risk assessment, or a prediction of what will happen on a trail.
  • The site says nothing reliable about trail surface conditions, traffic, weather, wildlife, lighting, or your own fitness and skill.

Never substitute anything on GoalRival for your own judgment. Use local knowledge, current conditions, and common sense every time you ride.

Assumption of risk

Cycling is inherently risky and can result in serious injury or death. By using GoalRival to find, plan, or record rides, you accept that you ride entirely at your own risk. You are solely responsible for your safety, your equipment, your fitness to ride, and for obeying all traffic laws and trail rules.

Trail information on this site — routes, distances, elevation, surfaces, waypoints, and maps — may be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. Trails close, change, and cross private land. Verify conditions before you go.

Don't operate your phone while riding. Set up ride recording before you start moving, and keep your attention on the road or trail.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you expressly and voluntarily assume all risk of personal injury, death, and property damage arising from your riding, and you release GoalRival and the people who build it from any and all claims arising out of or connected with a ride you found, planned, or recorded through the site — including claims alleging our negligence. This release does not apply where the law does not permit it — see “Limitation of liability” below.

What you post

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you post — reviews, ride data, submitted trails and cities. By posting it, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and promoting GoalRival, including the right to sublicense it to the hosting and content-delivery providers we use to serve the site. This license ends when you delete the content, except for copies retained in routine backups.

You confirm you have the right to post what you post, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.

Acceptable use

Please don't:

  • Post false, misleading, harassing, hateful, or unlawful content.
  • Submit fake reviews, or manipulate leaderboards, streaks, or rival matching.
  • Scrape, bulk-download, or systematically copy the site's data, or use automated tools against it without our written permission.
  • Attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the site, its database, or other users' accounts.
  • Upload malware, or use the site to violate anyone's privacy.
  • Reproduce another person's copyrighted work without permission.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.

Trail data is contributed by volunteers

Nearly all trail information on GoalRival — routes and geometry, names, surfaces, distances, and difficulty — originates from OpenStreetMap, a collaborative map built by volunteers anywhere in the world. This matters for how much weight you give it:

  • It is user-generated content created by third parties, not by us. Anyone can edit it, and we do not independently verify what they add.
  • Accuracy and completeness vary by area. A path may be missing, mapped incorrectly, described with the wrong surface or difficulty, or no longer exist.
  • A trail appearing on GoalRival is not a representation that it exists, is open, is legal to ride, is public land, or is suitable for you.
  • We transform this data — deriving distances, matching trails to cities, and generating descriptions — and those derivations can introduce errors of their own.

Always verify a route against current, authoritative sources and local signage before you rely on it.

Our content and licensing

The GoalRival name, design, and original written content belong to us. OpenStreetMap data is used under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0 and map tiles are served by CARTO; both remain subject to their own terms and attribution requirements, and nothing here grants you rights in them beyond what those licenses allow. Address lookups use Nominatim, also OpenStreetMap-derived.

Third-party links

GoalRival links to other sites — including our sister project GAMR— and we aren't responsible for their content or practices. Visiting them is at your own discretion and under their terms.

Service availability and changes

GoalRival is offered as-is and may change. We may add, alter, or remove features, and we can't promise the site will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free. We may suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time.

Termination

You can stop using GoalRival and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms or creates risk for other users. The sections on content licensing, disclaimers, and limitation of liability survive termination.

The legal part

Disclaimers

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GOALRIVAL IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that trail data, incident scores, maps, or any other information on the site is accurate, complete, or current. Nothing on GoalRival is professional, medical, legal, or safety advice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, GoalRival and the people who build it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the site. This includes loss or damage connected to a ride you planned, found, or recorded through GoalRival.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the site will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars ($100).

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, these limits and the release above apply to every kind of claim — contract, warranty, tort (including our alleged negligence), statute, or any other legal theory — even if we were advised the damage was possible.

Some jurisdictions — including for consumers in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area — do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain liabilities, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. In those places, nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and our liability is limited to the smallest extent the law permits.

Copyright

Reporting infringing content

We respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement. If you believe content on GoalRival infringes your copyright, email support@goalrival.com with:

  • Your physical or electronic signature.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed.
  • The URL of the material you want removed.
  • Your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for them.

We remove infringing material promptly and may terminate the accounts of repeat infringers. If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you may send a counter-notice to the same address.

If something goes wrong

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You and we agree that the state and federal courts located in Florida have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms or your use of GoalRival, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

If you live somewhere whose consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring claims locally, or applies mandatory local law, nothing here takes that away.

Before filing anything, please email us. Most problems are faster to fix directly. We ask that you contact support@goalrival.com and give us 30 days to resolve the issue before starting formal proceedings.

  • No waiver. If we don't enforce a provision, that isn't a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms without our consent. We may assign ours to a successor if the site changes hands.
  • Notices. We may send notices to the email address on your account; you can reach us at the address above.
  • Events outside our control. We aren't liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold GoalRival harmless from claims and expenses arising out of your use of the site, the content you post, or your violation of these terms or of anyone else's rights.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time and will revise the “last updated” date above. For material changes we'll give you notice — by email or a notice on the site — before they take effect. Continuing to use GoalRival after a change takes effect means you accept the revised terms; if you don't agree, stop using the site and ask us to close your account.
