The climbing is front-loaded — most of the 105 ft of gain lands in the first half of the 2.0 miles. The main climb starts right off the line and runs 0.75 miles, gaining 105 ft at an average 2.7%.
Starting near Chelsea Green, the route passes Gramercy Park around mile 1.4 before reaching Stuyvesant Cove Park at mile 2.1. It also runs through Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site and Augustus Saint-Gaudens Playground. Facilities are marked at East 20th Street.
